Open Doors
Open Doors Legal Services was born from a lived history and a deep conviction: justice should be accessible, humane, and culturally inclusive. This practice is built on legal experience, commitment to the community, and adept guidance for vulnerable people navigating the system.

Maria Diaz

A practice born from experience, guided by commitment and a willingness to listen. Maria combines her legal expertise and personal experience to guide those who have been excluded from the system through it with dignity.
Timeline
2008
Arrives in Canada from Ciudad Juárez. This personal experience will change her forever and will become the source of her commitment to justice.
2013
Becomes a Licenced Paralegal in Ontario. Begins her professional career at a criminal law firm in Toronto, working on complex cases and building the foundations of her legal expertise.
2019
Joins an immigration firm specialized in LGBTQ+ people. Works on refugee claims, inadmissibility procedures, and immigration applications with a humane perspective.
2024
Joins the Board of Directors at Vivi'r LGBTQ+ and Pride Toronto. Founds Open Doors Legal Services as an ethical, political, and personal response to the challenges in accessing justice.
